Directions to Pawleys Island
Directions to Pawleys Island from Columbia and I-95
The most common route is taking Hwy 501 from Florence to Myrtle Beach, then south on Hwy 17 Bypass to Litchfield/Pawleys Island. Off-season, this route should serve you very well. During the summer months, however, try this only if you will be traveling during off-peak hours. Highway 501 is on the of the largest traffic bottlenecks around Myrtle Beach and it does become extremely congested on Saturdays, sometimes causing eager vacationers to wait in traffic for hours. Listed below are some alternate routes that will allow you to avoid the traffic around Conway and Myrtle Beach.
Alternate Route from Columbia, SC
From Columbia, take
Hwy. 76/378 east. About seven miles east of the Wateree River, bear
right on SC 261 through the small towns of Wedgefield, Pinewood,
Paxville and finally Manning. In Manning, take US 521 to Georgetown. The
road signs in Manning are clearly marked to Georgetown. About 15 miles
out of Manning, you will be in the small town of Greeleyville (do not
speed through here!). US 521 will turn to the left and continue to
Andrews and into Georgetown. From Georgetown, take Hwy. 17 north to
Pawleys Island and Litchfield Beach.
