Melodie Henderson

Sales and Marketing Director
When were you hired by The Dieter Company?

October 1991

What are Your primary duties at The Dieter Company?

My primary duties are Sales Coordinator and Marketing for sales and rental properties, photography, 3D tours. It is amazing how much my duties have changed since 1991. I used to hand draw the floor plans, sketch pictures of the properties, or we would use black & white photos from a Polaroid camera for MLS and print ads. We used a Canon and a Nikon with slide film for the brochures. At the beginning of the digital age, we jumped in with a Sony Mavica that digitally recorded 6 images per floppy disk. Now, we are processing over 11,000 images a year along with 3D Visual Tours and computerized floor plans. All of these exciting technological advances, including our "book online" website and social media activity, have greatly improved the guest experience when selecting a rental or sales property.

Where were you born and when/ how did you end up in our area?

Born in Marietta, GA, raised in Union, SC. After finishing Converse College in 1977 with a degree in Art and Interior Space Design (and internship at Lockwood Greene, Spartanburg, SC), I came down to visit my favorite place in the world, Pawleys Island. I wound up staying for rest of the summer, then the rest of the year, and the years that followed.

One thing about you that others might find interesting?

I like listening to Jazz and particularly when it includes a piano or Hammond Organ with full vibrato.

What is your favorite rental property and why?

Having visited all of our properties for photos shoots, I know that The Dieter Company offers some of the most fantastic homes and condos available at the beach.  I am partial to the pet friendly homes. I have a Yorkie Poo and a Wirehair Dachshund, and we found Turner Beach House to be perfectly suited for our needs.  That kitchen (and my friends!) cooked some of the best meals!  Even the scrambled eggs were the best I've ever eaten.  We loved the sitting on the sundeck. It was Fall and butterfly migration season.  It was an incredible sight. We had a great time there!

What do you enjoy doing when not at work?

Gardening and going out to lunch with friends.

What is your Favorite local restaurant and what to order?

Oh boy. Franks, Chive Blossom, Bistro 217 and Rustic Table are all my favorites.  You'll also see me at Landolfi's where my favorites range from the Paninis to the Trentonian pizza. And for dessert - the Rum Cake or the Chocolate Decadence Cheesecake!

What family activities do you recommend?

Kayaking on the creek. The saltwater creeks are amazing. You'll see an array of shorebirds wading in the water, fish jumping, and crabs crawling sideways on the banks.

What is your best local insider tip?

Visit in the Off-Season!  It is beautiful at Pawleys Island in all seasons. You can sit on the beach, or on an oceanfront balcony, and watch the waves roll in. It's a good way to tune in and experience our slow-paced life on the coast. You'll want to return year after year, or just pick up and move down here full time!
